Duo Richard Hsu & Christina Spurling February 9

On February 9 Richard Hsu (violin) & Christina Spurling (piano) will join us for our Midday at 1pm Concert series.

Richard Hsu

Violinist Richard Hsu is an active soloist and chamber musician. Richard has performed with Orchestra of St. Luke's, Clarion Society, Early Music New York, American Classical Orchestra, and Concert Royal. He was formerly associate concertmaster of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra. He performed as violin soloist and concertmaster with the Moscow Ballet at Spoleto Festival USA. He holds a performer diploma and bachelor’s degree in violin performance from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. He furthered his studies at Manhattan School of Music, specializing in orchestral performance. Richard performs regularly with the Bangor Symphony Orchestra. He currently teaches violin and chamber music in Ellsworth and Bangor. Richard enjoys playing tennis, electric guitar, yoga, and making espresso drinks.

Christina Spurling

A native of Islesford, ME, pianist Christina Spurling earned the Master of Music degree in collaborative piano performance from the Longy School of Music of Bard College in Cambridge, MA. As a Longy Presidential Scholar, Christina studied accompanying, chamber music and opera with Brian Moll. She has served as rehearsal pianist for the Boston Opera Collaborative, the Bangor Symphony Orchestra and the Bagaduce Chorale. She performed with the Cape Ann Symphony, as accompanist for the Newburyport Candlelight Chorale, Acadia Choral Society and as a soloist with the Bagaduce Chorale. With a passion for community and musical collaboration, Christina founded the Quietside Chamber Music Festival in the summer of 2018 on Mount Desert Island, featuring local Maine-based musicians. As a teaching artist, Christina is currently directing a course of applied chamber music at College of the Atlantic and has coached ensembles at Colby College, with Arthur Russell Strings, Envision Chamber Music, and as part of QCMF. She is a piano instructor and collaborative pianist at Colby College, music director at the Somesville Union Meeting House UCC and teaches piano from her home studio on Mount Desert Island.
